IPv6 Addresses and IPv6 Subnets

Guide 2 min read

This page covers the two IPv6 pool screens. It is written for the operator selling extra IPv6 hosts or routed prefixes. List, assign, release, and delete behave like IPv4 Addresses. This page documents only what changes.

IPv6 Addresses

Menu: Addons → Proxmox Suite → Resource → Network → IPv6 Addresses

IPv6 list

IP type is locked to IPv6. Placeholder for Network address: 2001:db8::/64.

New IPv6

Rule What the form does
Network Required. Network address is required for IPv6. The value must look like a prefix, for example 2001:db8::/64.
First IP / Last IP Shown, and ignored. Hosts are generated from the prefix.
Host count Not a field. The create request defaults to 64 hosts and the expander stops at 256.
Number of subnets / Subnet CIDR Hidden.

IPv6 details

Details (virtualization, cluster, nodes, bridge, trunks, tag, private) match IPv4.

IPv6 Subnets

Menu: Addons → Proxmox Suite → Resource → Network → IPv6 Subnets

IPv6 subnets

IP type is locked to IPv6 Subnet. You carve child prefixes from a parent allocation.

New IPv6 subnet

Field Type What it does
Network address Text Parent prefix, for example 2001:db8::/48. Required.
Number of subnets Number, minimum 1, default 64 How many children to create. Cap 256.
Subnet CIDR Text, placeholder 64 Length of each child. Must be 1–128 and longer than the parent.
First IP / Last IP Text Relabelled First subnet / Last subnet in the browser, and ignored by the server.

Subnet details

Condition Message
No parent Network address is required for IPv6 subnet.
Bad child length Subnet CIDR must be between 1 and 128.
Child not longer than parent Subnet CIDR must be longer than the parent prefix.

Example

A /48 sold as /64 networks: IPv6 Subnets, network 2001:db8::/48, Number of subnets 16, Subnet CIDR 64, Confirm. Point the policy IP pools multi-select at that pool when the package limit IPv6 subnets is greater than zero.

Next step

IP Logs records assign and release. Package counts are on VM Plan.
