About Hetzner Data Center Core

Overview 3 min read

This page introduces the Hetzner Data Center Core addon: what it does, who it is for, and the key features that set it apart. It is written for WHMCS administrators evaluating or newly installing the addon.

What the addon does

Hetzner Data Center Core (srv_hetzner_dc) lets a WHMCS installation sell and manage Hetzner infrastructure directly from the admin panel and client area, without manual provisioning. It connects WHMCS to Hetzner's own APIs so that ordering, suspending, terminating, and day-to-day management of Hetzner resources happen automatically as part of the normal WHMCS order lifecycle.

The addon manages three separate Hetzner service families from one installation:

  • Hetzner Cloud — cloud servers (VPS) and related resources such as volumes, networks, load balancers, firewalls, floating and primary IPs, snapshots, and SSH keys.
  • Storage Boxes — managed remote storage accounts.
  • Dedicated Servers — bare-metal servers provisioned and managed through Hetzner Robot.

Who it is for

The addon is built for hosting resellers and agencies who already run WHMCS and want to offer Hetzner-backed products — cloud VPS plans, storage add-ons, or dedicated servers — to their own customers under their own pricing and branding, without hand-managing every order in the Hetzner console.

Key features

  • Unified dashboard — a single Core dashboard inside WHMCS shows the health and connection status of all three service families at a glance.
  • Hybrid billing — products can combine a fixed recurring plan (monthly or annual) with metered add-on fees for resource usage, such as bandwidth overage.
  • Async operation tracking — long-running Hetzner operations (builds, rebuilds, resizes) are tracked asynchronously and reconciled automatically, so the WHMCS service record always reflects the true state of the resource.
  • Lagom-integrated client area — the client-facing management screens are built on the Lagom2 template's design tokens, so they blend into a standard WHMCS client area rather than looking like a bolted-on panel.
  • Resource import — existing Hetzner Cloud servers, Storage Boxes, and Dedicated servers can be imported into WHMCS and linked to a service record, rather than requiring a fresh order.

Note

Hetzner Data Center Core is the shared core addon. Selling any of the three families also requires installing the matching thin server module — see Architecture and Families.
