Architecture and Families

Overview 2 min read

This page explains how the four WHMCS modules that make up Hetzner Data Center Core relate to each other, and which Hetzner API backs each service family. It is written for administrators who want to understand what they are installing before uploading files.

Four modules, one addon

Hetzner Data Center Core is delivered as four WHMCS modules:

Module Type Role
srv_hetzner_dc Addon module Core — shared dashboard, credentials storage, cron jobs, and the logic every family module relies on
srv_hetzner_cloud Server module Thin module for Hetzner Cloud (VPS) products
srv_hetzner_storagebox Server module Thin module for Storage Box products
srv_hetzner_dedicated Server module Thin module for Dedicated Server (Robot) products

The core addon (srv_hetzner_dc) is installed once and provides the shared administration suite: the health dashboard, credential storage for each family, and the scheduled cron jobs that keep WHMCS in sync with Hetzner. Each server module is thin — it plugs into WHMCS's standard provisioning lifecycle (create, suspend, unsuspend, terminate, change package, client-area actions) for its own family, and relies on the core addon for the actual work.

Note

The core addon must be installed and activated before any of the three server modules can be used to provision services.

One family, one API

Each service family talks to a different Hetzner API:

Family Hetzner API Server module
Hetzner Cloud Hetzner Cloud API srv_hetzner_cloud
Storage Boxes Hetzner (Storage Box) API srv_hetzner_storagebox
Dedicated Servers Hetzner Robot Webservice srv_hetzner_dedicated

Because each family uses a separate API with its own authentication, each family has its own credentials screen inside the core addon's admin suite — a Cloud API token, a Storage Box API token, and Robot Webservice username/password pairs. A site can enable any combination of the three families; none of them depend on the others being active.

Where to find family-specific guides

This overview section only covers the shared core (dashboard, cron jobs, installation). Day-to-day setup and management for each family — credentials, product setup, importing existing resources, and the client area — is covered in its own section:
