Storage Box — Boxes & Inventory

Guide 3 min read

This page explains how to view live Storage Box inventory in the WHMCS admin panel and link an existing Hetzner Storage Box to a WHMCS service. It is written for WHMCS administrators managing an existing Storage Box fleet.

What the Boxes page shows

Go to Addons → Hetzner Data Center Core → Storage Box → Boxes to see a live list of Storage Boxes returned from the Hetzner API, typically including:

  • Storage Box ID and name
  • Storage Box type (for example bx11, bx21) and location
  • Lock state and access status
  • Whether the box is already linked to a WHMCS service

This list is read directly from Hetzner, so it reflects boxes created through WHMCS as well as any Storage Box created manually in the Hetzner Cloud Console.

Note

The Boxes page requires a working Storage Box API token. Complete API Token first.

Linking an existing box to a WHMCS service

If a Storage Box already exists in Hetzner (created before the addon was installed, or provisioned outside WHMCS) it can be linked to a WHMCS service rather than being re-provisioned:

  1. Create or select the target WHMCS service for a Storage Box product (Module Name: Hetzner Storage Box).
  2. On the Boxes page, locate the existing Storage Box you want to attach.
  3. Use the link/attach action to associate the Hetzner Storage Box ID with the WHMCS service.
  4. WHMCS stores the Hetzner Storage Box ID in the service's serverID custom field, the same field used by boxes provisioned automatically through the module.

Warning

Only link a Storage Box to one WHMCS service at a time. Linking the same box to two services will cause management actions (password reset, lock/unlock, sub-account changes) to affect the wrong customer's view.

Keeping inventory in sync

Because the Boxes page queries the Hetzner API on load, it always reflects the current state in Hetzner. If a box was suspended, terminated, or modified outside WHMCS, the discrepancy will show here first. Cron-based synchronization behavior (stock/state sync) is configured on the Settings page.

Troubleshooting

Problem Fix
A known Storage Box does not appear in the list Confirm the API token belongs to the same Hetzner account/project as the box, then retry
Linked box shows the wrong customer's data Unlink and re-link the correct serverID on the affected service
Box status looks outdated Reload the Boxes page; check the cron sync interval on Settings

Next step

Continue to Settings to configure markup, sync, and client-area behavior for Storage Box products.
