Client Area — Dedicated Server
This page describes what customers see and can do for a dedicated server product in the WHMCS client area. It is written for WHMCS administrators who need to explain self-service behavior to customers or support staff.
Overview
The dedicated server client area is rendered by the srv_hetzner_dedicated module's overview template and adapts to whether the underlying Robot order has resolved yet.
Pending vs. active state
| State | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| Pending order | A banner showing the Robot transaction ID and a Reconcile Order button |
| Active server | Full server details plus the actions enabled for this product |
If a customer orders a dedicated server, they will initially see the pending banner — this is expected because Robot orders are asynchronous. Clicking Reconcile Order polls Robot immediately instead of waiting for the next cron cycle; see Pending Orders for how this works on the admin side.
Self-service actions
Once the server is active, which actions appear depends on the permissions enabled on Settings, Client Area tab (and any product-level overrides on the Product ACL):
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Hardware / software reset | Power-cycles the server or triggers a software reset |
| Rescue mode | Boots the server into a rescue system for recovery or reinstall |
| Reverse DNS | Lets the customer edit the PTR record for their IP(s) |
| Linux install | Triggers an automated Linux installation image |
| Wake-on-LAN | Sends a Wake-on-LAN packet to the server |
| Firewall | View and edit the Robot hardware firewall ruleset for the server |
| Addons | View or manage available Robot add-ons for the server |
Note
Reverse DNS, firewall, and Wake-on-LAN availability also depend on the underlying hardware and network configuration reported by Robot — the buttons only appear when the feature applies to that server.
Boot options and rescue mode
Boot-related actions (rescue mode, Linux install) let the customer prepare the server for maintenance or a clean reinstall without opening a support ticket. These map directly to the same admin-side boot controls described in Servers Inventory.
Firewall
When Allow firewall is enabled, customers can view and adjust their server's stateless hardware firewall rules directly, the same ruleset an admin can edit from Servers Inventory.
Network information
The overview shows the server's primary IP and any additional IPs or subnets Robot reports, along with reverse DNS entries where editing is enabled.
Cancellation
Dedicated server cancellation is scheduled by date, not instant. The customer (or admin, on their behalf) selects a cancellation date, and the server remains active and billable until that date arrives.
Caution
Cancelling a dedicated server is effectively irreversible once the cancellation date passes — the physical hardware is released back to Hetzner's pool. Confirm the correct service and date before submitting a cancellation request.
Linked Storage Box
If Robot reports a Storage Box attached to the dedicated server, the overview shows a shortcut panel linking to that Storage Box's own WHMCS service, when it has also been provisioned in WHMCS. See the Storage Box family documentation for details on managing it.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Customer sees no action buttons at all | Check that the relevant permissions are enabled on Settings, Client Area tab |
| Reconcile Order button does nothing | The Robot transaction may still be unfulfilled; wait for the next cron pass or check Pending Orders in admin |
| Reverse DNS edit fails | Confirm the IP belongs to this server and that Allow rDNS edits is enabled |
